──══ Galaxy 5 ══── Help File
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting Around
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Galaxy 5! This file is here to help you get started with the
game. It will tell you how to get around in the game. If you wish (and if
your SysOp allows it), you may download this file (option #2) for future
reference while not online.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Command Prompt
--------------------
Just about every command prompt in Galaxy 5 looks similiar to below,
Your Command Player? (C,F,L,K,V,?) [57 min] [R] : _
The (C,F,L,K,V,?) lists your available choices.
The [57 min] means that you have 57 minutes left on line. This will change
as you spend more time in the game (it will decrease every minute). This is
so that you know how much time you have left, and can act accordingly if
needs be.
The "R" between the brackets means that this is the default answer to the
prompt, and it is what will be selected if you just pressed ENTER. This
makes it easier to make choices because it always defaults to the most
common choice for the prompt given. This does not mean that you have to
select that choice, it is only there for convenience! ;>
At just about every prompt in the game, you can press ? to view the menu
again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Yes/No Prompt
-------------------
Alot of times you will see this prompt,
[Yes/no], or [yes/No]
See the difference in the two? Whenever you receive this yes or no prompt,
the choice that is capitalized, is the choice that will be selected if you
just pressed ENTER instead of "Y" or "N". Of course you can also press
"Y" to select yes, or "N" to select no.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whenever you see,
ENTER or ESC to abort
at the top of any command prompt, this means that you can press ENTER on a
blank line to abort the command, or you can press ESC any time to also
abort the command.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mail
------
When someone sends you mail, if it is normal mail, then you are always
prompted asking if you wish to write back to the person who wrote the
message you are reading. If you do decide to write back, then you will also
be asked if you wish to "Quote the message". If you choose Yes, then when
you edit your reply, you will be shown the message you are replying to
above your message with arrows in front of it like below,
> Hi player, I am new here, wanna kick some butt together?
Then you would type your response right below it, and when your message is
sent to the other person, it will look like this,
> Hi player, I am new here, wanna kick some butt together?
Why sure, I would love to!
The reason quoting is normally a good idea, is so that the one who wrote the
message will know what your message means when you send your reply. Lets say
for example, you didn't quote the message, and wrote back. Then your message
to the other guy/gal would look like this,
Why sure, I would love to!
As you might imagine, receiving a message like this, could confuse you,
especially if the reply was a few days after you wrote the original message!
You could have no idea what it is the message means! So it is basically a
good idea to quote every message, unless you know the receiving party will
know what it is you are replying to.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting Out
-------------
Just about every menu you are at in Galaxy 5, if you can't figure out how
to get out of it, just press ENTER. Chance are, it will either abort, or
it will default your selection to "R" for (R)eturn to wherever it was you
were.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keyboard Macros
-----------------
Galaxy 5 also supports its own keyboard macros. To use them, first you
must record them from any planets main menu with the (R)ecord Macros
option. You are allowed 3 different macro strings up to 70 characters
long. After you record your macro strings, you can use them anywhere in
the game where you can input a string of text. Like when posting your two
cents at one of the conversations at the inns, saying something to the
press after killing someone, and even when sending mail to another player!
To use them, simply type the number of the macro you want inserted (1-3)
while being asked to input your string of text, and press ENTER. Remember
that you MUST type in the number on a BLANK line, then press ENTER. Your
macro will be inserted into the string!
